Walking... lots and lots of walking!

As Americans, we don't do a lot of walking to get from point A to point B. For most of us, walking is merely a form of exercise. If someone said to you, the park is only a half mile away, just walk there, you would likely balk at that idea. We'll walk when we GET to the park; why would we drive there?! In fact, start adding "miles" to any conversation and you'll likely get an immediate "that's too far!" reaction. But that's not the mindset in Europe as our Italy travelers discovered!
I make no excuses and I don't downplay the amount of walking my tours will involve. From the moment you start asking me about a tour, I will stress that walking is a given. LOTS of walking. MILES of daily walking.
But what does that actually look like? Well, here's a snapshot of how much walking we did in Italy... My highest day topped out at 10 miles. The lowest (the day we did an all day bus tour) was still almost 6 miles. All the other days were at least 8 miles. EIGHT MILES. For me, that's about 17,000 steps.
Just one more reason to ask yourself "what am I waiting for?" You are the youngest you will ever be right now. Your knees aren't getting any younger. So decide that NOW is the time. Life is short. So We Travel!
